Subject: Shlomo on Vayera
Rebbe Shlomo ztzl/ 1988 Yerushalayim
The parsha is so deep, right? Gevalt is the torah deep. And I dont have to tell youagain that the torah is getting deeper, deeper, deeper. Its not the torah and its sweet and its beautiful. Let it be clear to you, every parshaits getting deeper. Mamesh its getting deeper deeper. Every year its getting deeper because if its not getting deeper, I read it last year. And Im sure its clear to you, every year when we read the parsha, mamesh a new light is coming down from heaven. It says Vayera Elav Hashem, And G-d revealed himself to him. And he didnt see anything. And then it says if you remember, it was the 3rd day after he circumsized himself, he was very much in pain. Okay, then he saw three people, and mamesh Avrohom Avinu is mamesh getting crazy. Mamesh he is running, and he has to slaughter 3 oxes just to give, to give a little peice of tounge to the three guests. And first he gives them milchiks (dairy) and then he gives them fleishiks (meat). And its a whole gesheft, right? And then they tell him that Sdom will be destroyed, that he will have a son, and that they are curing him. The next morning Avraham Avinu wakes up early in the morning and he goes mamesh and he prays, Ribbono Shel olam Master of the World, maybe there are some tzaddikim who can save Sdom. And Im sure everyone here knows the torah of Reb Tzadok Hakohen which is earthshaking. The first time in the torah we find someone that prayed is Avr The parsha is so deep, right? Gevalt is the torah deep. And I dont have to tell you Avrohom Avinu is praying for Sdom. Its awesome. That means, the headquarters for prayers is Avraham praying for Sdom. And everybody knows, why was Avraham praying for Sdom, why was he praying so hard? Because Avraham Avinu saw propheticley, that behind all the evil of Sdompsssssssss gevalt. Matzasi Dovid Avdi (I found my servant David). And the gemara says Heicha Matzasi ? Matzasi Bisdom. Where did G-d find King David? In Sdom! If you remember, our holy mother and sister Ruth and the grandaughter of Lot, Avraham Avinu knew that something has to be saved there, something very holy is going on there. and because of the prayer of Avraham Avinu Lot was saved, and ultimately the messiah, the redemption of the world depended on this one prayer which is awsome, right?..Okay, I dont know where to start but Ill start in the middle. Everybody also knows that this month is the month of CHESHVAN. And gevalt you know, everybody thought that Tishrei is the deepest in the world, right?I mean, how far can you go? Rosh Hashonna, Yom Kippur, but let me tell you something very deep, and I want you to open your hearts as deep as the ocean. Here Im madly in love with this girl and I meet her for five hours. I meet her from six till eleven, right? While I was with her I soke to her certain things at six, I spoke to her at ten, and I spoke to her at eleven. And what happens to me after I walk away and Im just closing my eyes, you know what it is? At that moment its the whole thing in one second, right? Its altogether. You know in the month of Tishrei, first Rosh Hashonna, then Yom Kippur and Succos. And here I want you to know, Im sure you remember it from last year, the deepest torah from the Holy Rizhiner. Its mamesh a heavenly torah. the Rizhiner says Mar Cheshvan comes from the word Rechushin Merachshin Siftey. Our lips are still whispering. We are still whispering all the prayers of Rosh Hashonna and Yom Kippur, psssssssss.Do you understand? Its not.you know, this month has no holiday and its reserved for when the Mashiach is coming. The third temple will be rebuilt this month. What is rebuilding the holy temple? You think the official prayers, I go to shul and I daven? You know whats bringing Mashiach? All the prayers I pray after its over.Listen to me, this is the deepest depths. You know, when you talk about judging somebody its on your tounge, you say sitting in judgment. But G-d says, I will stand behind the person you are judging. Elokim Nitzav Baadas Kel. Ill be standing. And here I want you to open your heart, this is the deepest depths. The person you judge is standing, right? The judge is sitting. So G-d says, Ill be standing behind the one you are judging. And what is the connection, everybody is talking about. And here mamesh , this is so deep. Vayera Elav. This is Ishbitzer torah and Im sure Im not understanding it 100 percent, but Im giving it over to you as much as I understand it. Why didnt it ay G-d revealed himself to Avraham? Vayera Elav, to him. I want you to know my beautiful friends I mean, if we are honest with ourselves. Okay, Ill just take myself. What do I know about the deepest depths of my heart? What do I know what Im capable of? .What is the covenant between us and G-d? A covenant is the most most, the most close anybody can be in the world. Between two human beings, between a husband and wife, between us and G-d. And here I want you to know, G-d made a covenant with Noach, just that the world will always exist. One way or the other, its not that deep. Nothing deep will happen to you, you will always be like that. Your a buisness man, you will always be a buisnessman. Your always an idiot, you will remain an idiot. There was nothing there to fix the world. Here it says the Master Of The World came to cure him. And the deepest question in the world is G-d cured him already, he came to visit him to cure him. He sent an angel to cure him. So here in a nutshell, and forgive me for making it a litlle bit shortcut, and I just hope I make myself clear or unclear. I want you to know something. Do we have any idea, do we have any faintest as to with how much love G-d created the world? We have no idea, right?Do we have any faint in eternal years how much G-d is putting in into every one of us? So much, so much gevalt, gevalt. I want you to know, when G-d revealed himself to Avrohom he gave Avrohom a taste how much the master of the world has put into Avrohom, Gevalt. Suddenley Avrohom Avinu knew, gevalt the ribbono shel olam, gevalt what he gave me. And I want you to know something so deep, and here Im coming to the essence of everything. I want you to know, there are two coins of the world. the two coins of love are also two sides of the coin. Loving somebody very much and being lonely, missing that person very much. you know what a real lonely person is? Not somebody who has nobody. So you have nobodyyou have nobody. Do you know when you are lonely there is somebody and you are not with them, gevalt are you lonely. The whole world doesnt know what lonely is. You know why we are lonely? Eicha Yashav Badad, Oy Gevalt, Hair Rabbasi Yah. Because one time we had the holy temple. One time mamesh, G-d was revealing himself to us all the time. now we are lonely again. So I want you to know, when Avrohom Avinu mamsh tasted a little bit for the first time, and Avrohom Avinu tasted a lot of G-d before, right? He also tasted what holiness is. When he saw nebech three lonely people, gevalt did he jump out of his skin..You see friends, if you would have any faint idea, if you have a little bit of a fant idea how much G-d loves the world, and you know the moment I have a taste how much G-d loves the world, then I also have a taste how much the world should be together. How much people should be close to each other.

THE COVENANT OF REVELATION

The Torah says vayera elav and G-d revealed Himself to him. Usually it says G-d spoke to Abraham, G-d spoke to Moses. Here it says vayera, He revealed. If I meet a friend and I have to tell him something very important we are not real true friends yet. If I just want to see you even if I really have nothing special to tell you, I just love you and I want to see you. Before Abraham entered into the covenant with G-d, G-d spoke to him when He had something to say. After the covenant G-d said, I really have nothing special to tell you, lets just look at each other. I want to reveal Myself to you,

This is very deep. Some people are in contact with G-d, but the only contact is when they have something to tell G-d, or G-d has something to tell them. It is a stock exchange that is going on. Its the highest, holiest stock there is, but it is still on the level of business. Being in the covenant with G-d means the relationship with G-d has nothing to do with anything in the world. It doesnt depend on anything.

Sometimes you meet little people who really know there is one G-d. They do everything right and good and sweet, but their knowing of G-d is only that they know exactly what G-d wants of them at four oclock, at five oclock at eleven oclock. They know everything exactly, but G-d never revealed Himself to them. They may know G-ds will, but not G-d. Wants are just a manifestation of self. There is something bevond wanting. If your deepest depths which are beyond wanting are a vessel for G-d, then G-d reveals Himself. if your relationship to G-d is only to doing His will, whict is very holy, then G-d tells you His will. Being in the covenant with G-d is beyond will, beyond wanting, beyond everything. If you enter a covenant with G-d it means your entire being is turned to G-d and,
so to speak, G-d turns to you also.

The Talmud says it was the third day after circumcision and Abraham, being an old man already, was a little bit sick. It is really beautiful how the Midrash says, Why did G-d come to see him? G-d came to visit the sick. How do friends visit each other? How do people console each other? People came to visit me when I was sick. They would say, You think you have back trouble? I had back trouble, and my aunt had back trouble, and you should have seen This is not consolation. It is even worse if more people are sick. What kind of consolation is that? G-od said to the prophet Isaiah nachamu, nachamu ami. Console, console my people. Could you please console my people with consolation? Do not console my people with other tragedies. How does G-d come to console people? He doesnt tell them anything. When G-d visits Abraham to visit the sick He doesnt say anything. He just sits there, He reveals Himself to Abraham, I am here.
